Which Cardstock Would You Rather Use?

A comment I hear A LOT is “I’m going to just go buy white card stock at the craft store!  It’s all the same anyway.”  And I will admit, that I too thought this same thing when I first started stamping about 15 years ago.  However, I learned very quickly that not all white card stock is created equal!

I learned this one day when I was trying to stamp the above image.  I was using white card stock from a local craft store and I just could NOT get a clear image when I stamped the star.  I tried everything I could think of:  I reinked the pad, cleaned the stamp, added as much ink to the stamp as possible, and more.  And no matter how hard I tried, I just could not get a clear, solid image!  I was ready to give up, when I got the idea to try Stampin’ Up! Whisper White card stock instead.  At the time, I really didn’t think it would make a difference.  I thought I would get the same result.  I was totally shocked when I got a completely different result!  The same image, stamped on Stampin’ Up! card stock was much clearer, much more vivid, and much more solid than it was on the craft store card stock!  I couldn’t believe it!  And you can SEE the difference in the picture above!  The non Stampin’ Up! card stock seems faded, it’s not clear, and the image does not look solid.  Compare this to the image on the one on the right, and the difference is clear!

So the bottom line is that, while you may pay a little more for Stampin’ Up!, you absolutely get a better product!  I only use Whisper White card stock now in all my projects!  It’s so worth it!  Try it for yourself and see!

Max’s Party Pandas Valentine’s Day Cards

I love that I live in a small town that still allows holidays to be celebrated at school!  My older son, Luca, goes to kindergarten all day, and not only is his class celebrating Valentine’s Day on Wednesday, they are also celebrating the 100th day of school!  My little one, Max, goes to preschool and they are also having a little Valentine’s Day party.  His teachers have been making all sorts of fun stuff with them the past couple of weeks to get ready!  They made little mailboxes and mailbags with the kids, and they have asked the parents to send in Valentine’s cards for each student.  They will each get to put their cards in their mailbags and hand deliver their cards to their friends’ mailboxes.  Max, who is 3, is pretty excited about his mailbox and bag!  He has dragged me over to show me pretty much every day for the last week when I pick him up!  Then he gets upset because we can’t take them home yet.  But again, he’s 3!  🙂

Anyway, I needed some Valentine’s cards for both of my boys’ classes.  Luca wanted Minions cards and he has a much bigger class, so we went with store bought ones.  (I know, gasp!)  I probably could’ve made punch art Minions, but that would’ve been really time consuming, and I just didn’t have time.  So for his class, store bought ones will have to do!

For my little one though, I definitely wanted to make cards!  But since they are being given to a bunch of 3 and 4 year olds, I also didn’t want to spend too much time or money on them!  Chances are, they’re going to get eaten not going to last too long anyway!  So I needed to come up with something cute, but very simple and easy to put together.  I hadn’t used my Party Pandas set, so I decided to go with that!

The cards I made are note card size, so they measure 3-1/2 x 5 inches in size.  They are one flat panel, so they don’t open and close.  The base layer is Basic Black, the middle layer is Real Red, and the top is Whisper White.  I stamped the panda in Basic Black Archival Ink, and the sentiment in Real Red.  For these, I cut a heart with the Sweet & Sassy Framelits and placed it over the balloon to make it look like a heart shaped balloon instead of the regular stamped one.  The hearts were cut out of Flirty Flamingo card stock.  Also, the sentiment stamp is from a retired Valentine’s themed Paper Pumpkin kit.

I was originally going to make a few different ones so that I could use all three of the pandas in the set, but then I decided to just make them all the same.  I only had to make 10, so making them all the same allowed me to make them very quickly.  I think it only took me about 45 minutes to make all ten, start to finish!  I think they came out super cute, and are perfect for little ones!

The Party Pandas set can be earned with a $50 purchase (before tax and shipping), but only until March 31st!  It is one of the $50 item choices from the Sale-a-Bration brochure.  To learn more about Sale-a-Bration, and see all the free item choices, please click HERE!

UPDATED TO ADD:  After I dropped off my kids at school this morning, I ran to Target to try to find envelopes that would fit these cards.  Not only did I find a pack of 50 envelopes in the correct size on clearance for $0.86 (yes, 86 CENTS!), I also came upon a package of 14 sheets each of these adorable panda stickers and heart stickers!  How cute are these?  And what are the odds of finding PANDA stickers to match the cards?  So I bought them and slipped a sheet of each into each envelope with the cards for Max’s classmates!  I also decided at the last second to stamp each envelope with some hearts from the Heart Happiness set!  Now I am waiting for Luca to get home so I can do his cards with him!  But since his cards are store bought, they’re not going to be as fun!  I’ll still at least stamp the envelope though!  😉

We Must Celebrate…a Happy Birthday!

A couple of weeks ago, I did a poll on my Facebook page asking people which stamp set they would like to see me get and make projects with.  The stamp set We Must Celebrate got the most votes, hands down!  This very cute set was already on my wish list, but I hadn’t had a chance to get it.  This gave me a reason to finally order it!

For the first card I made with this set, I wanted to keep it simple.  I stamped the little animals and colored them with Stampin’ Blends Markers.  I then cut them out with the Lots of Labels Framelits.  I used a piece of Wood Textures Designer Series Paper for the background and wrapped a piece of linen thread around it a couple of times before mounting it to the card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

I then heat embossed the sentiment in white, trimmed it to 1/2 inch wide, and then cut the ends with the Triple Banner Punch.  The sentiment is also mounted with dimensionals.  And that’s it!  I had planned to add a linen thread bow and put a heart somewhere, but when I added them, it looked a little cluttered!  So I decided to just leave the extras off.  Sometimes, you just gotta keep it simple!

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Rainbow Builder Framelits Meets the Magical Day Bundle

Yesterday was my sister’s birthday.  I had made an entirely different card for her, and then I remembered that she has a unicorn coffee mug that she LOVES.  So with about 45 minutes until I had to leave to go see her, I very quickly put this card together!  I didn’t have a lot of time to fuss with the design, so I just kept it simple!  But I like how it came out.  (And so did she!)

I used the Rainbow Builder Framelits Dies to make the rainbow in Brights cardstock colors.  I used Real Red, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Old Olive, Pacific Point, and Rich Razzleberry.  I also cut the clouds from the same set in Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper, just to give the card a little sparkle!  The unicorn was stamped in Memento Ink, cut out with the coordinating die from the Magical Mates Framelits Dies (which are part of the Magical Day Bundle) and colored the mane, tail, and horn with Stampin’ Blends.  I finished off the unicorn by brushing a little Clear Wink of Stella on the colored areas!

I finished off the card by adding some silver metallic stars from the Metallics Enamel Shapes, and it was done!  Simple, but also bright, colorful, and fun!

Thanks for checking in today!

“Bee Mine” Mini Pizza Box for Valentine’s Day

Each month, the Stampin’ Up! team that I am part of does a Facebook hop where a bunch of us create projects based on a theme and then all post them to our Facebook pages.  We each post instructions to see the next project by “hopping” to the each person’s page with the links to get from page to page.  You go through each page until you get back to the first project you started with.  When you have gotten back to where you started, then you have seen all the projects and the hop is complete!

We are having a Facebook hop tonight that features gift bags and boxes.  Since Valentine’s Day is next week, I made this little bee themed Valentine’s Day box!  I used all different sized punches and cutting dies to make the bee, which was inspired by one I saw on Pinterest.  I used stamps from the Heart Happiness stamp set for the background hearts and the stripes on the bee’s body, as well as a stamp from the Bloomin’ Love stamp set for the sentiment.

The inside holds four small chocolate hearts.  I was given a small box of Divine Milk & Dark Chocolate Belgian Caramel Hearts as a gift, and when I opened the box, my first thought was that the tray inside would probably fit perfectly inside the mini pizza boxes!  Turns out it didn’t, but there was very little I had to do to make it fit.  I just had to trim a very thin strip all around the edge of the tray and then it fit perfectly!

This is the brand of chocolate that I am referring to:

And here’s what the inside of the finished mini pizza box looks like with the tray trimmed to fit:

Don’t the hearts look yummy?  Now that I have finished the project and taken pictures, I can finally eat the chocolate!

This was a really fun project to make! I love punch art, though I don’t do it as often as I would like to!  It takes a lot of time and a lot of different products, but the end result is so worth it!

I hope you’ve enjoyed my little bee Valentine’s box!  Thanks for checking in!

Looking for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!

This past weekend, I had a class in which participants made St. Patrick’s Day banners!  They mentioned that they wanted one of the pieces of the banner to show a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.  The rainbow and the gold were easy to make, as I have the Rainbow Builder Framelits Dies.  But I knew the pot was going to be a little more difficult!  Initially, I wasn’t sure how I was going to make it, and had decided that I would probably just cut one freehand.  But before I did so, I decided to flip through all of my cutting dies to see if there was something I could use.  And in my Coffee Cups Framelits I found the perfect solution:

The die circled above is supposed to be a clear dome lid for a coffee cup.  But I saw an upside down pot!  So I used it to cut some black cardstock, flipped it upside down, and placed it on the piece to see how it would look.  I think it works pretty well!  (And no fussy freehand cutting! Phew!)

Be sure to check back tonight for a bonus post at 8:00 pm Eastern Time!  I will be participating in a Facebook hop that will feature Valentine’s Day gift bags and boxes.  I hope you’ll check back in and follow along!

In the meantime, enjoy your day!

Beautiful Peacock Congratulations Card

I received this gorgeous Congratulations card last week in the mail from my amazingly talented upline, Sarah Wills!  Sarah’s cards are always so beautiful, and she always puts together colors that look so striking together!  I love the color combo she chose for this card!  The colors are as follows:

This card features the Beautiful Peacock stamp set, which can be earned for FREE with a $50 purchase (before tax and shipping) during Sale-a-Bration!  Sarah created multiple layers of the peacock by cutting them out separately and mounting them with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  Other products she used to add detail to this card include: Layered Leaves Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder; Stitched Shapes and Layering Circles Framelits; Lemon Lime Twist 3/8 Inch Mini Striped Ribbon; and Silver Baker’s Twine.  Here’s a close up of the peacock:

As mentioned above, the Beautiful Peacock stamp set is available as a FREE Sale-a-Bration item, and is ONLY available with a purchase of $50 or more (before tax and shipping)!  It is a photopolymer stamp set and includes 12 stamps.  It’s a two step stampin’ set too!  Here’s a pic of the whole set:

While the stamps are all designed to work together, and definitely focus on building the peacock, many of them can be used alone as well.  The two tail stamps can be used as simple flourishes, the polka dots and flower stamps can be used as background stamps and accents, and of course, the sentiments can be mixed and matched with lots of other sets!  This is a very versatile set!

But this set is only available until March 31st!  And again, it’s only available as a FREE Sale-a-Bration item!  (This set cannot be purchased, only earned with a qualifying order!)

You can find out more information about this gorgeous set HERE.

I always love the cards that Sarah sends me!  Each one is so different and unique, and this one is no exception. I always know when I see an envelope from her in my mailbox that it contains something special! 🙂

I hope you like Sarah’s card as much as I do!  Thanks for stopping by today!
