Color Fusers Blog Hop for May 2021

Happy May, and welcome to another Color Fusers blog hop! This month, we have a pretty combo of Poppy Parade, Flirty Flamingo, Pool Party, and Bumblebee to share. I love this time of year because my favorite flowers are in season: TULIPS! I planted over 300 tulip bulbs in my yard last year, and they are in full bloom right now, so I decided to use that as my inspiration for this month’s project!

There is a tulip farm close to where I live called Wicked Tulips. They plant over 500,000 tulip bulbs every year, in every color you can imagine. It is definitely one of my favorite places! When you pick your own tulips there, they have wrapping stations where you can wrap them, and they provide brown kraft floral paper to wrap them in. I wanted to design my card to look like a bouquet of tulips, and I used Crumb Cake DSP to make my “wrapping”, as it reminds me of the bouquets I’ve put together at the tulip farm. Here’s a picture of one of my actual bouquets from there (it rained the day I went, that’s why they’re wet!):

For this card, I used the Timeless Tulips stamp set. This set has one large and two smaller tulip stamps. The largest tulip coordinates with the Tulip Builder Punch. When I stamped the large tulips, I used the Rock n Roll technique. To do this, I inked up the stamp in either Bumblebee or Flirty Flamingo, then took the stamp and gently rolled just the edges of the stamp around in Poppy Parade ink, so that the darker ink blends along the edges with the lighter color. If you look closely at the largest tulips on my card, you can see the variation in color this technique produces:

In addition to the large tulips, I also stamped a few of each of the smaller ones in solid colors, then carefully “fussy cut” those with Paper Snips.

This card has a Poppy Parade base, a Pool Party middle layer, and a top layer of Basic White. The top layer was cut with a die from the NEW Scalloped Contours Dies, and was spattered in Pool Party ink with a Water Painter to add a bit more detail!

To make the bouquet, I first made the wrapping. I used a 6 x 6 piece of DSP from the new Neutrals Color Assortment. I placed one of the corners so it was pointing up, and then scored and folded both sides in, as shown in the photos below:

I then opened the paper so it was flat, then arranged my tulips as shown below:

Once I had all of the large tulips arranged and adhered the way I wanted, I tucked a few of the smaller tulips into the bouquet as well:

Once I had everything the way I wanted it, I folded the flaps over, and adhered them so they stayed closed. I then placed the bouquet on the card and carefully trimmed off the excess. I stamped my sentiment, added a white twine bow, as well as a few Pool Party rhinestones from the Holiday Rhinestone Basic Jewels, and my card was complete!

Measurements for this card are as follows:

Poppy Parade cardstock base : 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 inches (scored at 4-1/4 inches and folded in half)

Pool Party cardstock middle layer: 4 x 5-1/4 inches

Basic White top layer: 4 x 5-1/4 inches
