It’s Merry Monday with Winter Woods!

Last week, I posted a poll on my Facebook page about which stamp set my followers would like to see me use, and Winter Woods got the most votes!  I figured I would use it for today’s project, since today is also Merry Monday!  This card is based on one I made four years ago using the Lovely as a Tree stamp set.  It is one of my favorite cards that I’ve made, and when I saw the Winter Woods set in this year’s catalog, I knew right away that I wanted to try to recreate it.  I finally got the chance this past weekend!

The Winter Woods stamp set includes 7 rubber stamps, and comes in your choice of wood mount or clear mount.  It can be found on page 27 of the Holiday Catalog, or, you can click the image below to go to it online:

Here is what my original card looked like:

For the old card, I used a number of products that have since retired, including Brushed Silver card stock, Smooch Spritz, and the Watercolor Winter Too stamp set.  However, we have current products that I knew I could recreate it pretty closely with.  And luckily, the main color, Night of Navy, is still current!

For the new card, I used Night of Navy, Whisper White, and Shimmery White card stock.  I also used the new Galvanized Metallic Paper in place of the Brushed Silver card stock used on the original.  The technique I used to create the background is exactly the same on both cards.  I punched a 1-3/4 inch circle and applied it to the background piece with removable adhesive (available at local craft stores).  The circle was used as a “mask” while I applied ink to the background.  I sponged Night of Navy ink using light, circular motions, while leaving the middle of the card unsponged to create the look of moonlight.  Once the sponging was done, I peeled off the circle, and was left with a perfect full moon!

To create the rest of the background, I first used the stamp with multiple trees and inked it up with Night of Navy ink.  I stamped it off twice before stamping onto my background, as I wanted those trees to be very light.  I then stamped the large evergreen tree full strength onto the card.  I stamped the sentiment onto a small piece of Shimmery White card stock and punched it out with the Everyday Label Punch. I then wrapped Silver Baker’s Twine around the top layers twice, adhered the sentiment with Stampin’ Dimensionals, and embellished with a few of the white enamel circles from the Santa’s Workshop Enamel Shapes!

Measurements for this card are as follows:

Night of Navy card stock base:  5-1/2 x 8-1/2 inches (scored at 4-1/4 and folded in half)

Galvanized Metallic Paper layer:  4 x 5-1/4 inches

Whisper White layer:  3-7/8 x 5-1/8 inches

Shimmery White top layer:  3-3/4 x 5 inches

Shimmery White sentiment piece:  1-1/2 x 2-3/8 inches

Scrap circle “mask” (used to make the moon):  1-3/4 inches in diameter

I am so happy with the way this card came out!  I love the updated version as much as the original!  The Winter Woods stamp set is such a gorgeous, versatile set, and can be purchased alone, or as part of the Winter Woods bundle.  The bundle also includes the coordinating In the Woods Framelits dies.  (Even though I did not use the dies on this card, I will include them in the links below.  Be sure to check them out!)

I hope you like my project today!  Thanks for stopping by!

CASE the Catty Day 4: Rooted in Nature Thinking of You Card

Today is Day 4 of my CASE the Catty week!  My card today is based on a card from the Notes of Kindness card kit.  I LOVE this kit!  It has gorgeous colors and designs.  Here is a picture of the four different cards it makes:

The card I CASE’d is the one in the top right corner.  This time, I copied the basic design, but substituted different colors and embellishments, as well as sentiments!

For my card today, I used a Sahara Sand card base and Very Vanilla as my main background color.  I also used Soft Sea Foam and Soft Suede. It’s such a soft, neutral color palette, with just a bit of bold color from the Soft Suede!  I used the Rooted in Nature stamp set for the leaves, tree cross section, and sentiment.  I also stamped some spatter pattern all over the background using a stamp from the Touches of Texture set, which was stamped in Sahara Sand to match the base!  The sentiment piece was fussy cut with Paper Snips.

For embellishments, I added some vellum leaves, which were made with the NEW Sprig Punch from the Holiday Catalog, as well as some Pearl Basic Jewels and Linen Thread.  Before adding the pearls, I colored them with the Ivory Stampin’ Blends Marker to match the Very Vanilla background.  The Ivory marker is perfect for adding just a hint of color to the pearls so that they are not so bright white!  Did you know that Stampin’ Blends in ANY color can be used on most of our embellishments?  You can basically create embellishments in any color you need!  (Well, as long as it’s a current Stampin’ Blends color!)  It’s just one more reason why the Stampin’ Blends are so useful!

Measurements for this card are as follows:

Sahara Sand card base:  5-1/2 x 8-1/2 inches (scored at 4-1/4 and folded in half)

Very Vanilla background layer:  4 x 5-1/4 inches

Very Vanilla sentiment piece: 2-5/8 x 2-5/8 inches (approximately)

Vellum sprig punch pieces:  1-1/2 x 1-1/4 inches

I hope you like my card today! Please check back tomorrow for another CASE the Catty project!

You are Wonderful Card Made with the NEW Rooted in Nature Bundle

This card is based on one of the Make and Take projects I made at OnStage last month!  I actually did not get to finish the one we were making that day, so I took the pieces with me to finish at home.  Then I decided to mix it up a bit when new goodies from the new catalog arrived!  This card uses a new bundle called the Rooted in Nature Bundle, as well as coordinating Designer Series Paper called Nature’s Poem DSP.  Both items are part of a new suite of products called the Nature’s Poem Suite.  This whole suite has imagery and colors of trees, leaves, and other images of nature.  It’s definitely one of my favorite new suites!

Measurements for this card are as follows:

Sahara Sand card base:  5-1/2 x 8-1/2 inches (scored at 4-1/4 inches and folded in half)

DSP Background Strips:  1-1/4 x 5-1/4 inches

Whisper White sentiment piece:  1-1/8 x 3 inches

Mint Macaron/Grapefruit Grove Leaves:  1-1/2 x 3 inches

Banner DSP piece:  3/4 x 2 inches

For this card, I used Snail Adhesive to adhere the background strips and leaves to the card base.  The sentiment and banner piece were adhered using Stampin’ Dimensionals, to give this card a little height and texture!  It’s embellished with a button from the True Gentleman Buttons, as well as a Linen Thread bow.

Be sure to check out the entire Nature’s Poem Suite in the new catalog when you receive it!  (It can be found on pages 142-144.  This is sure to be a very popular collection of products!

Thanks for visiting today!

Thoughts and Prayers Friendship Card

Thoughts and Prayers is one of the first stamp sets I bought when I became a demonstrator!  I love the simplicity of the tree and floral images, as well as the beautiful sentiments!  (The sentiment on this card is actually not from the Thoughts & Prayers set though. It’s from the So Many Shells set!) I have used Thoughts & Prayers for many, many occasions, including birthdays, weddings, Mother’s Day, friendship, thank yous, and of course, sympathy cards. This set comes in both clear mount and wood mount, and would make a great addition to your collection!

To make this card, I cut an extra top layer, then used a square from the Layering Squares Thinlits to make a “mask”. This mask was placed over the final top layer, so that the whole layer was covered except for the square that had been cut out. I then used a Stampin’ Sponge to sponge Crumb Cake ink all inside the square to make the background behind the tree. Once it was completely filled in, I removed the mask, stamped the tree and sentiment both in Soft Suede ink, and then added Clear Wink of Stella Glitter to the leaves of the tree!
