The (Punch Art) Aliens Are Coming!

My card for today was actually made for a Facebook hop I participated in last night!  The theme was kids’ cards, and I decided to go with aliens, as Max and Luca are obsessed with space right now!  Luca LOVES Star Wars and Max loves Power Rangers in Space!  I was actually scrolling through Pinterest and found a cute picture of some aliens, and decided that I would base mine on the picture.  Here’s what the original picture looked like:

To make this card, I used an assortment of punches and framelits.  I will list exactly what I used for each below.

For the orange alien with the purple hair:

  • Layering Ovals Framelits
  • Fox Builder Punch (for the hair)
  • 1/2 inch circle punch
  • Cookie Cutter Builder Punch

For the green alien:

  • Layering Ovals Framelits
  • Fox Builder Punch (for the horns)
  • 1/2 inch circle punch
  • Cookie Cutter Builder Punch

For the blue alien:

  • 1 inch circle punch
  • 1/2 inch circle punch
  • Cookie Cutter Builder Punch

All of the legs were free cut using paper snips, and all the feet are just 1/2 inch circle punch outs cut in half!

The star print background is from the Twinkle Twinkle Designer Series Paper.  To create the sentiment, I used the Labeler Alphabet stamp set.  I stamped each letter in  Basic Gray ink and then hand trimmed them with Paper Snips.  They are adhered to the card with Mini Glue Dots!

Measurements for this card are as follows:

Night of Navy cardstock card base:  5-1/2 x 8-1/2 inches (scored at 4-1/4 inches and folded in half)

DSP background layer:  4 x 5-1/4 inches

Orange Alien:  2-3/8 x 1-1/2 inches  (Oval for body measures 7/8 x 1-3/4 inches)

Green Alien:  2-1/4 x 1-3/4 inches  (Oval for body measures 1 x 2 inches)

Blue Alien:  1-1/2 x 3 inches  (Circle for body measures 1 inch in diameter)

Stamped letters:  3/8 x 3/8 inch (approximate)

The card is finished with some Wink of Stella on the purple hair, as well as some silver metallic stars from the Twinkle Adhesive Backed Sequins!  Also, the mouth on each alien was hand drawn with a Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker.

Punch art cards take a little longer to make, but they are so much fun to create!  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!  Thanks for stopping by today!

CASE the Catty Day 3: A Lovely Friend Dragonfly Card

My card today is doing double duty as my Case the Catty Day 3 card, as well as my team Facebook hop project for later tonight!  It’s based on a sample on page 42 in the Annual Catalog.  For my card, I kept the colors and layout very similar to the original – I just switched up the stamps and made a full sized card rather than a mini note card as shown in the picture!  You can see the picture of the original card below.  The one I CASE’d is the third one:

For my version of this card, I used the Swirly Frames and Touches of Textures stamp sets, as well as the Stitched All Around Bundle.  I’ve had a ton of dragonflies in my yard this summer!  So when I decided to CASE this card, I knew exactly what I was going to change the bird to!  The main color on this card is Balmy Blue.  I stamped the dragonfly in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink and colored with Stampin’ Blends.  Unfortunately, Balmy Blue is not a color that has been released in the blends yet, so I went with what was closest, which is Pool Party.  I also went over the dragonfly once it was colored with Wink of Stella.  I love the little extra touch of shimmer!  Here’s a close up:

When I stamped the background of this card, I first used an Aqua Painter to spatter some of the Balmy Blue ink across the background.  Once that dried, I stamped the circles.  I used the Triple Banner Punch to cut a banner piece.  It’s worth noting that you should cut your banner strip 1/2 inch longer than what you want your final banner to be, as that is how much the punch takes off the end!  So, if you want your banner to be 4 inches long, you should start with a 4-1/2 inch piece!  The sentiment is in two parts, and both were made with the Stitched All Around Bundle.  The lovely and friends are both stamps from the set.  The lovely was stamped on the banner and then the friend was stamped on a separate piece of white.  I then cut it out with one of the dies from the bundle and layered them.  I like the little extra detail using the die adds to this card!

Measurements for this card are as follows:

Thick Whisper White card base:  5-1/2 x 8-1/2 inches (scored at 4-1/4 inches and folded in half)

Balmy Blue middle layer: 4 x 5-1/4 inches

Whisper White top layer:  3-1/4 x 4-3/4 inches

Balmy Blue banner piece:  3/4 x 4-5/8 inches

Dragonfly circle piece: 1-3/4 inches in diameter

July Facebook Hop: Red, White, and Blue +3!

Hi!  If you are visiting from our team Facebook hop, WELCOME! I hope you enjoy your visit!  This month, our team created projects using the colors red, white, and blue, as well as three of any word or image.  For my project, I used the Wood Words stamp set to stamp three stars in Real Red on the white distressed look paper from the Wood Textures 6 x 6 Designer Series Paper.  I then used the Layering Squares Framelits to cut them out, and used a different die from the set to cut scalloped frames for them from Night of Navy card stock.

I used the Celebrate You Thinlits to cut the sentiment from Silver Foil Sheets, and also used silver stars from the NEW Twinkle Adhesive Backed Sequins to accent each star!  I was out of town when I assembled this card, and I had originally planned to mount the framed stars with Dimensionals to add a little extra detail, but I ran out of the house and forgot to pack them (oops)!  So this whole card was adhered with Snail Adhesive and Multipurpose glue instead.

Here’s a close up of the shine of the silver on the stars and the sentiment:

Measurements for this card are as follows:

Night of Navy card stock base:  5-1/2 x 8-1/2 inches (scored at 4-1/4 inches and folded in half)

Real Red middle layer: 4 x 5-1/4 inches

White DSP layer:  3-7/8 x 5-1/8 inches

Night of Navy scalloped squares:  1-1/2 x 1-1/2 inches

White DSP squares with stars: 1-3/16 x 1-3/16

Silver Foil “Celebrate” sentiment:  1-1/8 x 3-5/8 inches (approximately)

I hope you’ve enjoyed your visit to my blog, and will check out the other projects created by my team for this month’s Facebook hop!  Everyone’s projects are truly unique, and there’s a lot of inspiration to see!

Thanks for stopping by!
