3D Thursday Design Team Halloween Blog Hop

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! I hope you all have a great day today! It’s supposed to rain like crazy tonight here in CT, so not sure what’s happening with trick or treating yet. (I also work in a school, so please pray for me and ALL school personnel, as the kids have already been crazy this week, and it’s only going to get worse! LOL!)

The 3D Thursday Design Team has some fun Halloween treats for you today! Please feel free to hop through all of our blogs to see what we have created. I hope you will also visit and “like” our team Facebook page too. I will provide the link at the end of today’s post!

My project today is a cute little witch hat that holds some sweet treats! I made the hat from Basic Black cardstock, filled the inside with Hershey Kisses, closed up the bottom with a piece of clear Window Sheet, then decorated it as shown. I even found Halloween themed Hershey Kisses, which were perfect to fill this with. This was such a fun project to create!

Here are the step by step instructions I followed to create this project:

  1. To start, I used the Layering Circles Dies to cut two black circles from Basic Black cardstock. I used the largest circle in the set, which has a diameter of approximately 2-7/8 inches. I punched a hole in the center of one using the 1-1/2 inch Circle Punch, and a hole in the other with the 1-3/8 inch Scallop Circle Punch. I also cut a 3 x 4 inch rectangular piece of Basic Black cardstock and a 2 inch circle Window Sheet piece.

2. I used a Bone Folder to loosen up the fibers of the rectangular piece of black cardstock, and rolled it into a cone shape. I used Glue Dots to secure the ends of the cones so that it kept its shape.

3. I then fed the cone through the hole of the round piece with the 1-1/2 inch opening until it snugly fit the hole. I used Paper Snips to trim the bottom of the cone to about 1/2 inch in length, then cut slits all around the bottom of the cone.

4. I flattened the flaps against the underside of the hat’s brim, and adhered with Glue Dots. Next, I filled the inside of the hat with Hershey Kisses.

5. Once the hat was filled, I applied Glue Dots around the outside edge of the Window Sheet circle and adhered it over the opening to hold the Hershey Kisses inside. Then, I layered and adhered the second black circle over the window sheet to create a clean, finished bottom.

Once the hat was complete, I decorated it as shown above. I applied some spider web images with VersaMark ink, and lightly heat embossed the hat to give it some added detail and shimmer. I also wrapped black shimmer ribbon around the bottom of the hat, added some green vellum leaves, and a little purple spider with one googly eye. The sentiment is from the Boo to You stamp set, and is stamped in Pumpkin Pie ink, while the whole sentiment piece is sponged lightly with Sahara Sand ink. I also crimped the top of the hat and folded it over a bit to give it an old and worn look (or at least that’s the look I was going for!)

You can find a complete list of all the supplies I used to create this project at the very end of this post.
